The Rose & Crown, Romaldkirk, Teesdale

The Rose & Crown is an award winning 18th century inn standing on the green of the pretty dales village of Romaldkirk in rural Teesdale.

Owned by the Robinson family who have farmed in Teesdale for four generations, The Rose & Crown has been awarded AA red star status making it one of their top 200 hotels in the country and also holds 2 AA rosettes for food.

It offers traditional charm combined with contemporary design in a relaxed and friendly environment. The kitchen team create fabulous food that showcases the great regional produce of the northern dales and the bar offers local real ales as well as fine wines and an excellent selection of malt whiskies.

Dogs are made extremely welcome at The Rose & Crown and indeed your canine companion may get a personal ‘hello’ from Mabel the resident Jack Russell.

There are 12 rooms that are dog friendly with the Courtyard Rooms lending themselves particularly well to dog owners as they have their own direct outdoor access and you can park your car close by.

Up to 2 dogs can stay in your room at The Rose & Crown and you will find a dog bed and a few locally made ‘Welly-bix’ dog treats for your dog to enjoy.

There is no additional charge for dogs to stay at The Rose & Crown, however they do reserve the right to apply a charge to cover any damage or special cleaning if required. For guests travelling with large dogs or dogs prone to shedding a lot of hair they have a secure room with a tiled floor in Monk’s cottage where they can sleep.

There is even a ‘dog hosing/drying area’ should you return a bit muddy and wet from a walk!

Teesdale is all about ‘the great outdoors’. This beautiful part of the world enjoys the status of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a Natural Nature Reserve and a European Geopark.
You and your four-legged friend will be spoilt for choice with so many fabulous walking routes from the front door of the Rose & Crown and in the surrounding area.

Make your way down to the river Tees and join the Teesway footpath along to the village of Cotherstone and return to Romaldkirk on the old railway line. Or explore the nearby fells such as Cronkley and Widdybank where a nature trail adds to the interest.

After your walk return to The Rose & Crown to enjoy some of the fabulous, award winning food in the bar. Your beloved pooch can join you in the bar which is cosy and full of character. Relax and enjoy before heading to your room for a perfect night’s sleep.
